Pre-Engineered
Metal Buildings
Established in 1989 by Mary Farrar, former owner of Systems Erectors, this division focuses on erecting all types of pre-engineered metal buildings.
Farrar, who has herself been in the pre-engineered field for 25 years, remarked that this type of construction has changed dramatically over the years, especially in terms of aesthetics. With architectural metals being used much more prominently in all types of construction, and the increased awareness of the design flexibility when using metal, the pre-engineered building industry has gained greater acceptance.
"There are never any simple pre-engineered buildings anymore," Farrar said. "The projects have gotten much more complicated. Pre-engineered building systems have taken over 65 to 70 percent of the low-rise market. And they are being used for everything. We did three churches last year."
Farrar added that the skilled labor required for erecting pre-engineered buildings is quite specialized.
"We are dealing with a finished product," she said. "No one covers up our work."
Building Erection Services' team of ironworkers skilled in this type of construction has enabled it to be a market leader.
Some of the projects this division has erected over the years include: the new American Royal, the Kansas City Chiefs training facility and indoor practice field at Arrowhead Stadium, the Kent State University indoor football field and training facility, the CertainTeed plant in the Fairfax District of Kansas City, Kan., and over eight million square feet of warehouse space for Metro, Midwest Terminal, B.A.Karbank, Schock Transfer and Kessinger-Hunter.
Building Erection Services is an active member of the Systems Builders Association and recently achieved SBA 2000 certified contractor stratus.
